![]() ![]() While some of the other students are mean to her and Amel does get upset she knows why she is there and brushes it off.Īmel has the hardest time adjusting to the layout of the school because of her disability but she finds an unlikely ally in a rich girl named Savette who chose a red dragon. The instructor Grandis Dantriet seems to see something in Amel that she probably doesn’t even she in herself and this may be the reason he didn’t turn her away. It was interesting to learn about the different factions of the school from the newbies, to the Inducted, the Sworn and fully-fledged dragon riders. ![]() Her parents run a farm and she knows she can’t do that kind of work, being a wife and mother is unwise because of her crushed hip so the only option left that would enable her to live an independent life is dragon school where she will become a Dragon rider or the servant of a dragon rider providing she doesn’t die before that. When she was a child raiders invaded her village and during their escape her grandfather who had been carrying her fell, crushing her hip and leg that never quite healed right. We learn that Amel got her limp through an accident. This voice turns out to be a dragon telling her she won’t be picking the dragon the dragon is picking her, and she gets a purple dragon which are rarely picked because of their extremely bad tempers and her dragon is called Raolcan. She obviously, compared to the nobility is one of the last to choose her dragon and is wondering what colour to pick when she hears a voice in her head. Our protagonist, Amel Leafbrought isn’t like the other people picking dragons because she has a disability and walks with a crutch. We are also Dominion Sky People or Dragon Riders and we learn that a dragon’s abilities and the personality of its rider align with a specific colour, so golden for diplomats, red for soldiers, green for explorers and so on. ![]() It opens with the ceremony of dragon choosing for people attending dragon school. ![]() Review: The opening to Dragon School First Flight was great. ![]()
